
Two Institutional Review Board (IRB) Presentations
Two 1-hour presentations are offered periodically throughout the year to orient researchers to working with the IRB.
Target audience: PIs, research coordinators, students, faculty advisors, and others interested in the IRB process.
Presentation 1: IRB Roles and Responsibilities – Learning objectives:
• Define research involving human participants
• Explain regulations on the requirement for IRB review and approval of research involving human participants
• Describe 3 categories of research: Exempt, Expedited and Full Board
• Differentiate role of researcher from role of IRB Board in approval process
• Identify requirements for review after initial approval: Modifications, Adverse Events, Progress Reports
• Discuss potential compliance issues
Presentation 2: IRB Submissions– Learning objectives:
• Explain where to start when submitting to the IRB
• Identify types of submissions: New study protocols, modifications, progress reports, and others
• Specify required documents
• Specify required training
• Discuss Research Review Submission Form (RRSF), Informed Consent and Conflict of Interest forms
• Describe who may submit to the IRB and required signatures
• Discuss process for modifying study personnel
