Positions and Work Experience

  1990 to Present Dean and Schmidlapp Professor of Nursing: College of Nursing Programmatic options include PhD, MSN (11 majors), BSN, RN to BSN and Accelerated Pathways. The College of the Whole organizational structure consists of three faculty teams (Scholarly Inquiry, Professional Practice and Advanced Profession pRactice plus the Center for SCholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL). The Institute for Nursing Research, the Center for International Affairs and Professional Development, Institute for Distance Learning, Division of Student Affairs, the Center for Academic Technologies and Educational Resources, (NIAP, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation), Center for Aging with Dignity, and the Phoebe Kandel Library. The College offers instruction to approximately 1300 students with over 350 graduate students, 20 FTE faculty, 3 Associate Deans, 2 Asst Deans, and support staff.   1994 -2002 Founder and Interim Dean: College of Allied Health Sciences Founder of the 16th college in the University of Cincinnati. Assumed the responsibility and leadership as founder for design, development and implementation of the new academic unit in the Academic Health Center, University of Cincinnati. Currently, the new college has 630 students in programs (AS to PhD level) as; Nuclear Medicine, Medical Technology, Communication Sciences and Disorders (audiology, speech and hearing), Dietetics and Nutrition, Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Assisting, Genetic Counseling and Blood Transfusion. Others as, Occupational Therapy, Radiation Therapy and Electroneurologic Diagnostic are in development. Responsible for over 40 full-time faculty and 8 staff. Research and Practice Interests

  Area of research is work with the aged to increase levels of self-concept when institutionalized for a period. Technique; brief intervention therapy, assessment of attitudinal behaviors of congruence ,empathy and unconditional positive regard. Additional research is in area of suicide; assessment of and intervention therapies.
